María Corina Machado Parisca, born October 7, 1967, in Caracas, Venezuela, is a prominent opposition politician, industrial engineer, and pro-democracy activist. From an upper-class family with ties to the steel industry, she earned degrees in industrial engineering and finance before co-founding Súmate in 2002, an organization promoting fair elections. She was elected to Venezuela’s National Assembly in 2010 with the highest vote tally that year but was expelled in 2014 by the Maduro regime. In 2013, she founded Vente Venezuela, a liberal party, and in 2017 co-founded the Soy Venezuela alliance to unite opposition forces.
